Lost In You (The Story Behind The Song)

Worshiping Jesus for all eternity…can you even imagine what that will be like?  We tried to when we wrote our song Lost In You.

When I sat down to write this song with Daniel Meyer, we wanted to write an upward worship song about eternity and heaven.  Meaning, not just a song “about” heaven, but also a song we could sing to God.  So we opened up our bibles and read about heaven.

Heaven or the “new earth” will be everything God intended earth to be from the beginning.  Though I don’t believe we will be bowing before the throne of God for all eternity in some sort of eternal worship service.  I do believe we will continue to worship Him with everything we do, just as we can here on earth.  But, we’ll be able to see the face of Jesus and the glory of God and worship Him face to face – literally bowing at the throne of grace.

Revelation 21:22-26 says of the new heaven and new earth- 22 And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. 23 And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, 25 and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. 26 They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations.

The city has no need of sun or moon because the glory of almighty God gives it light!  Surrounded by the glory of God; no more sickness; no more sin or sadness.  Even the most vivid of imaginations could never comprehend all that God is and all He has for us.  And this is the reality for those who are in Christ – fellowship with the God of the universe and each other for all eternity.  What a beautiful future we have as believers.

What will the glory of God be like?  Exodus 24:17 says 17 Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel.  Revelation 21:11 says –11 having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.  God told Mosses in Exodus 33:20 that no one could see His face and live.  The glory of God is a light and a power so magnificent we can’t look upon it with our mortal bodies or we would die.  But when we enter heaven we will see His glory and we will see His face.

Just as we sing praise to God here on earth, we will sing praise to God for all eternity.  What amazing music and hymns we will sing with His mercy washing over us.  It will truly be captivating and we will truly be lost in His goodness, grace and mercy.  That’s one reason I love to worship and sing to God so much.  Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can experience the presence of God here and now.  We can feel His love and mercy surround us.  That is our prayer for this song.  I pray that it will remind us of the glory and majesty of God, even though we only experience a small glimpse of it now. I pray we will realize that we aren’t just singing a song, but we are worshiping the God of heaven, the creator of all things, whose kingdom has no end.  Let’s worship Him in spirit and truth with eternity in our hearts and be Lost In Him!
